Combo in a thimble
In this tutorial, we walk through the combo camera setup designed for masonry thimble chimneys. The top unit is the Enviro camera with adjustable flexible cone whiskers, while the Lighthouse camera below includes both top and bottom whiskers for stability. A Y-block and cable connect to a ½-inch rod, which we recommend using instead of thicker or fiberglass rods to keep movement smooth.
We demonstrate inserting the camera into a 6-inch, 18-inch-long thimble, making sure the whiskers fold in to prevent lockups. One hand guides the camera while the other steadies the Y-block, keeping the unit level. Once it reaches the back wall, subtle push-and-pull motions help maneuver it deeper without strain.
Proper alignment of components like the maxi stick ensures control and prevents damage. With practice, this technique becomes effortless — improving accuracy, efficiency, and camera longevity.
