Whether it’s your first time unpacking a Chim-Scan® or you just need a refresher, this guide will walk you through the initial setup so you can start inspecting with confidence — and without frustration.
Step 1: Unbox & Inspect Your Equipment
Before powering anything on, make sure you have everything:
Camera head
Monitor or display unit
Control box (if applicable)
Reel or cable system
Power cords and chargers
User manual and quick-start sheet
Pro Tip: Double-check your camera lens and cable connections for dust or debris from shipping.
Step 2: Connect the Core Components
Connect the camera head to the control box or reel.
Plug the video output into the monitor.
Connect the power source (battery or AC adapter).
If you’re using a USB or SD card system, insert your storage before powering up.
Step 3: Power It Up & Check Your Feed
Once everything’s connected:
Turn on the system.
Make sure the video feed is live and clear.
Test camera movement (if you have tilt/pan capabilities).
Adjust lighting levels for visibility.
If your image is blurry, gently clean the camera lens with a microfiber cloth.
Step 4: Test Recording (If Applicable)
If your unit has video/photo recording:
Test-capture a still image.
Record a 5-second clip to ensure the feed is saving properly.
Confirm the file shows up on your USB or SD card.
Label your card for easy future access (e.g., “Client - Smith Inspection”).
Step 5: Safety Check
Before entering a chimney:
Ensure all connections are secure.
Make sure there are no kinks in the cable.
Do a quick test of cable retraction or rotation.
Check your battery level (if not using AC).
Important: Never insert the camera into a flue that hasn’t cooled down.
Optional: Customize Settings
Some units allow for:
Brightness adjustment
Angle calibration
Output display settings
Audio input for voice memos (on select models)
Adjust these before you head to the job site.
You’re Ready to Inspect
That’s it. Simple, smooth, and set up for success.
