Even the most reliable tools hit a snag sometimes. If your Chim-Scan® system isn’t working as expected, don’t panic — here’s a straightforward troubleshooting guide to help you get back on track fast.
1. No Video Feed on the Monitor
Symptoms:
Monitor is on but shows no image
Black or frozen screen
Quick Fixes:
Double-check all cable connections
Ensure the camera is properly plugged in
Try restarting both the camera unit and the monitor
Test with a different cable if available
Pro Tip: Always power down before unplugging or reconnecting cables.
2. Camera Lights Not Turning On
Symptoms:
Camera feed works but the flue is too dark
Lights flicker or don't respond
Quick Fixes:
Confirm the light control is turned on
Check for a dedicated lighting toggle on the control box
Inspect the camera cable for pinches or cuts
If using battery power, confirm full charge
3. Pan/Tilt Functions Not Responding
Symptoms:
Camera won’t move when using controls
Only one axis works
Quick Fixes:
Check joystick or pan control input
Inspect cable connection for damage
Make sure no debris is blocking the camera head
Reset the unit and test movement again
If the issue continues, reach out for service — the internal motor may need attention.
4. Recording Issues (No Save or Playback Errors)
Symptoms:
Files not saving to USB or SD card
Corrupted video
Playback not working on computer
Quick Fixes:
Reformat your SD card/USB stick (FAT32 recommended)
Try a different storage device
Ensure there’s no write protection enabled
Avoid removing storage while recording
5. Unit Doesn’t Power On
Symptoms:
Nothing happens when you flip the switch
Quick Fixes:
Check for battery charge or working power outlet
Inspect the power cable and adapter
Try a different power source
Check fuse or breaker if you’re using a power strip
6. Cable Tension or Rotation Issues
Symptoms:
Cable won’t feed properly
Rotation feels stuck or uneven
Quick Fixes:
Unwind the cable fully, then rewind slowly
Inspect for any twists, crimps, or bends
Lubricate or clean reel if applicable
Don’t force it — this can damage internal wiring
