Tom's Tips - Scanning on the Roof
We introduce the top-down scanning method as an essential approach for inspections and reports—especially when traditional access isn’t possible. For this process, we use key equipment: a protective cap, safety glasses, flashlight, respirator, towel, and electrical tape. Safety is crucial; we maintain proper stance and fall protection at all times. Our gear is packed efficiently, using the towel to protect cables as we lower the camera. During scanning, we assess chimney alignment, offsets, and defects, distinguishing cracks from scratches by their shadows and continuity. Once complete, we clean and repack our equipment carefully. This method remains a reliable, safe, and practical inspection solution when standard entry is limited.
